Ron DeSantis vs. Democrats' Censorship Network
Now that he's returned to being the best governor in the U.S., Gov. Ron DeSantis has returned to fighting against what I've nicknamed the Democrats' Censorship Network. It's getting reported in this Daily Wire article that the Democrats' Censorship Network "are trying to generate false narratives in the media by claiming that extremely popular books and classics are under review by the state, even though they are not, noting that the some have even challenged the Bible and dictionaries."
This started with Gov. DeSantis signing the Parental Rights in Education Act into law. The law "prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through 3rd grade and prohibits instruction that is not age appropriate for students."
It isn't that the bill allows the censorship of classic books. It's that the Democrats' Censorship Network want to make it look like the classics are getting prohibited. Gov. DeSantis explained things by saying this:
"So now what we’ve seen is you have seen activists that will go and just challenge almost anything. That’s not appropriate to be happening. Hijacking this process is not something that we want to encourage in any way," he continued, adding that some are doing it "just to try to create a narrative, to try to act like, 'oh my gosh, these books are under review.' And then the media will take that, run with it and try to act like that there’s some debate on whether Florida law requires this or not, which there’s not. So this is all theater. This is all performative, and it really has no place in our school system."This news report breaks things down accurately: The censorship storyline is myth. It isn't accurate. It's worth noting that Gov. DeSantis wants Florida's students to get the best history education in the U.S. Further, he wants the classics to get taught, too. Most parents would agree with this statement:
"Parents' rights have been increasingly under assault around the nation, but in Florida we stand up for the rights of parents and the fundamental role they play in the education of their children," said Governor Ron DeSantis. "Parents have every right to be informed about services offered to their child at school, and should be protected from schools using classroom instruction to sexualize their kids as young as 5 years old."The censorship myth needs to be thrown into history's trash heap. People like Gov. Walz are simply dishonest.
