Introducing No Labels Nikki Haley?

Is Ari Fleischer right? Is Nikki Haley planning on running as a third-party candidate? Is she planning on running as the endorsed candidate for the No Labels Party? The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Appearing during Fox News's South Carolina Primary coverage Saturday night, Fleischer said "I've been around a lot of these candidate speeches, I've written a few. That was a 'No Labels' speech tonight by Nikki Haley. That was a speech, when she says, 'No matter what I am running.' When she trashes Joe Biden, trashes Donald Trump, she is setting herself up to run down the middle."

Fleischer continued, saying "And look what happened in South Carolina tonight, she won according to the Fox voter analysis independent voters by 19 percentage points. That is only 7% of the people who voted in the primary which is why she got her clock cleaned in the primary by Donald Trump. But when you look at independent voters, she sees a huge group out there. And when you look at the country independent voters are 43% of the country, Republicans are 27%, Democrats are 27%."

Dana Perino cautioned Democrats against getting too giddy, though:

This should frighten Biden's campaign. Trump's base, whatever you think of them intellectually, haven't abandoned him since 2015. At the start of these primaries, I thought there were some soft Trump voters who might vote for someone as outstanding as Gov. Ron DeSantis. That thought quickly disappeared.

If Haley runs, she has the potential of doing to Biden what John Anderson did to Jimmy Carter in 1980. In 1980, the 'experts' predicted that Anderson would take more votes away from Reagan than from Carter. That prediction failed. In 1980, Reagan won the election, gathering 489 electoral votes.

Reagan's base didn't budge. With a world filled with crises, independents left Carter in historic droves. Sound familiar? Then again, it's possible that Haley is just messing with us. Tune in to Monday's edition of America's Newsroom. That's when Dana Perino is supposed to present her sentence diagram chart of Haley's speech.

Until then, people will wonder if Fleischer was right. Meanwhile, Democrats will have to drink lots of Maalox to keep their stomachs settled.
