Antony Blinken advocates for Palestinians

I can't say that I'm surprised by this article about U.S. Secretary of State Anton Blinken's meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the Munich Security Conference. While attending the Conference, Blinken is quoted as saying "We're thinking of the suffering of people caught up in the middle of conflict, including the Palestinian men, women and children in Gaza. We’re thinking as well of the genuine opportunities that lie before us for a better, more secure future for Israelis, Palestinians and all of our friends in the region. There's a lot of work to be done to move toward that future, but I’m grateful for President Herzog and our work to not only think about it, but to help realize it."

President Herzog is quoted as saying that getting Israeli hostages back from Hamas is "at our top priority." Then he's quoted as saying "We want them back and we're working with the international community. We are working with you and the international community on the issue of the humanitarian supply, making sure to upgrade it according to the rules of international humanitarian law whenever and wherever is necessary."

Not to be outdone by President Herzog, PM Netanyahu declared "Those who want to prevent us from operating in Rafah are essentially telling us: 'Lose the war.' I won’t let that happen. We won’t capitulate to any pressure."

In short, Biden and Blinken were rejected on the world stage by Herzog and Netanyahu. Granted, Herzog was polite about it in Munich but Netanyahu essentially told Biden to take a hike while speaking in Jerusalem. This report from Mike Tobin highlights the rising tensions with Israel:

PM Netanyahu delivered this strong, spirited speech almost 2 weeks ago:

Finally, there's this:
Netanyahu said at the press conference that he’d told US President Joe Biden that Israel will fight until “total victory — and yes, that includes action in Rafah." But the IDF operation in Gaza’s southernmost city, he stressed, will "obviously" come only after civilians there have an opportunity "to evacuate to safe areas."
Israel has always done its utmost to protect civilians while maximizing its ability to take out terrorists. Over its history, they've proven to be the best in the world at this.

Biden is treating Israel foolishly. Israel is fighting for its existence. For the U.S. and Biden, it's just another policy. That's quite the difference in terms of importance.
