Tom Emmer calls for Ilhan Omar to "resign in disgrace"

In a decision that's sure to make him more popular, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, (R- MN), called for Rep. Ilhan Omar to resign in disgrace over a video of Omar that went viral. In the video, Rep. Omar "appeared to assure her Somali-American constituents that she would do everything in her power to prevent the disputed, breakaway Republic of Somaliland from entering into a sea-access deal with landlocked Ethiopia."

Rep. Emmer is quoted in the article as saying "Ilhan Omar’s appalling, Somalia-first comments are a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she was elected to serve and a direct violation of her oath of office. She should resign in disgrace." This shouldn't be taken lightly. When he first joined Congress, Emmer joined with then-Rep. Keith Ellison to start the Somalia Caucus. Emmer's decision wasn't greeted with applause in his district. FULL DISCLOSURE: Emmer represents my district. The point is that Rep Emmer isn’t an Islamophobe, not anything close in fact.

Here we go again. The congresswoman from Minnesota (representing the 5th district–Minneapolis and nearby suburbs) has stirred up another international controversy. And, as always, local media show little interest.

Apparently, Ilhan Omar gave a speech at a Minneapolis Hyatt hotel on Saturday, where she speaks in her native Somali language to a Somali-ethnic local audience. The video, and an accompanying translation, circulating on Twitter (X) can be found here, among other places.

Naturally, Omar is insisting that the translation is dishonest. That's as surprising as finding out that the rises in the east. Of course, she's going to deny the truth. I'll say this about Omar. She has lots of defenders in the media. Check this out:

What is Kamala Harris afraid of?

Apparently, Kamala Harris suddenly loves debating. Let me rephrase that. Harris loves debating as long as the moderators are partisan hacks. She wants nothing to do with a debate moderated by Fox's Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. She's afraid of Bret and Martha because a) they'll either fact-check both her and Trump or they won't fact-check either of them and b) Bret and Martha aren't afraid of asking follow-up questions. To a candidate whose answers are scripted and who isn't quick on her feet, the last thing you want is a follow-up question. Why is Joe Biden letting Hamas off the hook?

It isn't disputable whether Joe Biden's administration is letting Hamas off the hook. That issue was settled months ago, when a spineless Joe Biden caved to activists interested in saving Hamas and thwarting the Israelis' attempt to defend themselves.
