Jake Sullivan's less-than-excellent Israel adventure
The WSJ article opened by saying "National security adviser Jake Sullivan pressed Israeli leaders to shift from a reliance on airstrikes and ground assaults in Gaza toward targeted military operations and warned that a protracted conflict would make the Palestinian territory harder to govern after the war, U.S. officials said."
The article continued, saying 'Sullivan’s meetings with Israeli political and military leaders Thursday seemed to have made little headway addressing the growing rift between the U.S. and Israel over civilian casualties, the length of the conflict, flagging international support for Israel’s campaign, and the future governance of the Gaza Strip.'"
This is what happens when the U.S. has weak leadership. The world follows hte U.S.'s leadership. When Ronald Reagan was the U.S. president, the world followed his leadership. As a result of that, the Soviet Union got toppled. Tens of millions of people were liberated. Eastern Bloc nations chose a path of liberty and capitalism for themselves. We're still benefitting from President Reagan's leadership. Many of those former Eastern Bloc nations are contributing their fair share in the effort to liberate Ukraine.
Under Joe Biden's 'leadership', nations are doing whatever they want. They're certainly not afraid of not doing what the U.S. tells them to do. Ironically, Al-Jazeera English has an accurate description of Sullivan's reception in Israel:
KEY PARAGRAPH: "Jake Sullivan said that, before he left, he'd be discussing a timetable with Israeli leadership to end the war and he Israel's leadership to move to a different phrase from the high intensity operations we're seeing now." TRANSLATION: Israel is blowing off Sullivan's proposal. That's significant because of this reporting:The U.S. is undertaking a full-court press in the region for the Israelis to begin to wrap up the conflict. U.S. officials have said privately the U.S. wants to see the fight end in weeks, not months, though the Biden administration continues to support Israel’s campaign to destroy Hamas’s ability to wage military operations or govern Gaza.Israel is fighting for its existence. The U.S. leadership is pushing for its foolish default position of a 2-state solution. 2-State solutions are fine if neither side wants to eliminate the other side. Hamas wants to eliminate Israel from existence. They've said so each Friday since November, 1979. After all that time, shouldn't we trust their statement?
