Are there hidden anti-Trump voters

After attending what's now getting called "the Vander Plaats Primary", several event attendees suggested that Iowa polling might be skewed. In 2016, Trump's campaign insisted that there was such a thing as "the hidden Trump voter." Most 'experts' scoffed at the notion. Come Election Day 2016, the 'experts' found those hidden Trump voters hidden in rural parts of battleground states like Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa. Back then, Obama won each of those states twice. In the case of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin hadn't voted Republican since George H.W. Bush won in 1988.

After the Vander Plaats Thanksgiving Family Forum, people gathered at a "nearby hotel restaurant." According to the report, "As DeSantis fans gathered outside a nearby hotel restaurant for his post-forum reception, some attendees found it hard to square the number of supporters in line with his standing in the polls. Does this mean the forum was deliberately packed with DeSantis voters? Or that the polls are not to be believed? Several supporters of the Florida governor who spoke to RCP suggested the latter."

It continues:

"The polls absolutely can be skewed," Matthew Haynie, a business owner from Des Moines, told RCP. “I’m not an expert, but you can’t hide what you see. I’ve yet to meet a rural person who has been polled." Haynie believes DeSantis has far greater reach there than current polls estimate. "I'm seeing extremely strong pro-Trump farmers and country folk taking off their MAGA hats and trading them in for DeSantis merch," he added.
In 2016, people lied to pollsters because they didn't want to be identified with Trump. After Trump's defeat in 2020, isn't it possible that people don't want to be identified as DeSantis voter out of fear of Trump retribution? Look at how Trump criticized Kim Reynolds when she didn't immediately endorse him. He criticized her for not being loyal to him. He did the same thing with Gov. DeSantis.

The Hidden Trump Voter:

It's too early to know with certainty whether there's a hidden anti-Trump voter out there. Still, it's a distinct possibility, at least in Iowa.

It's worth noting that Gov. DeSantis plans on completing "the full Grassley", which means visiting all 99 counties in Iowa. DeSantis' message is appealing and his work ethic is impressive. Trump has a good message but his work ethic is lacking. His lack of discipline is legendary as is his vitriol.

Gov. DeSantis is putting in lots of effort in Iowa. That's because it's important for him to decimate Trump's aura of inevitability. That can't happen soon enough.
