Joe Biden's Oval Office address on Israel, Ukraine

The most frequent headlines associated with tonight's Oval Office address is that Joe Biden will push for $100,000,000,000 in aid for Israel and Ukraine. According to CNN's reporting, "The primetime address will take place on the eve of the White House requesting north of $100 billion from Congress to deliver aid and resources to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and the US border with Mexico. Biden is expected to make the argument that supporting Ukraine and Israel is a matter of US national security when the world is at an inflection point. 'He’s going to make the case that the cost of inaction and the cost of walking away is much higher,' according to one official."

That's nice but will he put the spotlight on Iran's role in funding the violence in Gaza and northern Israel? If he doesn't forcefully threaten Iran with the hardest-hitting sanctions in U.S.-Iranian history, then Biden's speech will be a failure. Period. If Iran keeps selling oil to China at its normal prices, then Iran will have a virtually unlimited supply of $$$ to fund Hamas, Hezbollah and its other proxies indefinitely.

I don't expect Biden to say much about Iran. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Iran isn't mentioned during tonight's speech. NBC doesn't think Iran will get much attention, either:

The $100,000,000,000 request is far too high. In this interview with News Nation, Gov. DeSantis said that the U.S. hasn't spent that much in the 75-year history with Israel:

Israel can't afford a U.S. president tapdancing on the issue of Iran. It's nice to send 2 aircraft battle groups into the eastern Mediterranean Sea but they're meaningless if Iran isn't put on notice that they'd better stop antagonizing through their proxies. That should be a demandment, not a request.

When it comes to financial tools at a U.S. president's fingertips, U.S. presidents have a lengthy, powerful list of tools to utilize. Now's the time to utilize them. Further, Iran's funding mechanism for Hamas and Hezbollah must be shut down or, at minimum, slowed to a trickle.

Finally, Ukraine funding shouldn't be part of this package. Republicans should shut that down immediately.
