Joe Biden's Oval Office Address a missed opportunity

After reading the transcript of Joe Biden's Oval Office address to the nation, one thing is inescapable. The speech gave him 2 perfect opportunities to sell his foreign policy vision. Unfortunately for Joe, Joe missed both opportunities. Before getting to those opportunities, though, I need to highlight this partial paragraph.

In it, Biden said "Iran is supporting Russia in Ukraine, and it’s supporting Hamas and other terrorist groups in the region. And we’ll continue to hold them accountable, I might add." First, that's a total of 27 words spent talking about Iran. Just 27 words? Seriously? They're the cause of this disruption.

A majority of Republicans have questioned the part about holding Iran accountable. It's my opinion that that's fiction. I've written multiple times about what Biden inherited. Biden inherited a placid Middle East, an Iran that was broke thanks to crippling sanctions on the mullahs and an economy that was collapsing.

Today, the Middle East is roiling in turmoil, the Saudis have contacted Iran, whom they hate, and Israel, our closest ally in the world, just got attacked by Iran's proxy, aka Hamas. Biden should've spent 2+ paragraphs explaining Iran's role as the Middle East's chief troublemaker.

Biden couldn't do that, though, because that would've forced him to explain his failed Iran policy. That's the last thing Biden wanted to do tonight.

Ukraine missed opportunity
On Ukraine, I’m asking Congress to make sure we can continue to send Ukraine the weapons they need to defend themselves and their country without interruption, so Ukraine can stop Putin’s brutality in Ukraine.

They are succeeding. When Putin invaded Ukraine, he thought he would take Kyiv and all of Ukraine in a matter of days. Well over a year later, Putin has failed, and he continues to fail.

Kyiv still stands because the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Ukraine has regained more than 50 percent of the territory Russian troops once occupied. Backed by U.S.-led coalition of more than 50 countries around the world, all doing its part to support Kyiv.

Ukraine didn't think they'd lose. Biden thought they'd lose. Gen. Milley predicted it, in fact. Imagine what Ukraine might've done had they gotten the arms they requested on the timetable Ukraine requested. Russia might've gotten entirely pushed out of Ukraine by now. Further, Ukraine is begging Biden to let them defeat Russia. Biden is preventing Ukraine from defeating Russia.

Though this is NBC's reporting, it's relatively accurate:

Let's recap this speech. Biden had the opportunity to tell the world how a U.S.-led coalition would defeat Putin's Russia. Biden had the perfect opportunity to change his administration's Iran policy. He failed both times. What a missed opportunity.
