Did Jamaal Bowman lie to Congress
Rep. Bowman's story that he pulled the fire alarm because he was in a hurry to vote is fiction. There's video proof that shows he calmly walked up to the door, took down the signs instructing people not to use those doors, then pulling the fire alarm. Further, the video shows him walking away from the door after he pulled the alarm. It's worth noting that the video didn't show him attempting to open the door.
Prof. Turley quoted Bowman as saying "I don’t know why this has gotten so much attention,. I was literally just in a rush to go vote, man! That’s all it was!" In the video, Rep. Bowman wasn't in a rush whatsoever. Rep. Bowman strolled up to the doors, took down the signs, set them aside, then pulled the alarm:
In interacting with reporters, Bowman accused Republicans of making the incident out to be more than what it was. He denied, though, that he was trying to delay the vote that would cause a government shutdown. That explanation works with a compliant press that acts like a stenographer for the DNC but it's still a lie. If a picture is worth 1,000 words, that video is worth 6 months in jail time and a hefty fine. When I hear Bowman hint that this isn't a big deal, I'd remind him that Capitol Hill was evacuated while the Capitol Police (or whoever is in charge of this) checked to make sure everyone is safe. That's kind of a big deal.
The other thing that's noteworthy is that Rep. Bowman didn't tell the authorities about what he'd done. They found out through the videotape. That sounds like the actions of a guilty person.
