Dean Phillips for president
First, if Phillips runs, his congressional seat will open up. At this point, I don't know if that's a seat the GOP can flip. I suspect it isn't. Next, it's preposterous to think that a do-nothing back-bench member of the House has a chance of getting 5% of the vote in any of the early states. The only way this makes sense is if Phillips is really running for governor in 2026 or if he's angling for a cabinet position. Otherwise, this is a total waste of time.
From the Politico article:
And he has taken several steps in recent weeks toward launching a presidential run, including calling New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley last week and reaching out to several potential staffers about working in New Hampshire. Here's WMUR's report on the potential Phillips primary challenge: The DNC rigged the primaries against Bernie Sanders and RFK Jr. They won't need to rig anything to dispose of PhillipsAmong those he’s approached are Steve Schmidt, a former Republican consultant, and Bill Fletcher, a Tennessee-based Democratic consultant, according to a person familiar with the nascent campaign. Schmidt and Fletcher did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Messenger first reported Phillips’ outreach to Schmidt.
