Donald Trump, international softie

Whatever you think of Donald Trump's foreign policy accomplishments, they don't tell the entire story of his foreign policy/national security portfolio. When it comes to war, Donald Trump is pretty wimpy. Joe Rogan praised Trump after Trump's CNN Town Hall for his answer on the Russia-Ukraine War. During that townhall, Trump boldly said "If I'm president, I will have that war settled in one day, 24 hours" before saying that he'd meet with both presidents.

When asked who he wants to win, Trump said "I want everybody to stop dying. They're dying. Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I'll have that done. I'll have that done in 24 hours. I'll have it done. You need the power of the presidency to do it."

That's the definition of wimpy. When he was president, Ronald Reagan called the Soviet Union the Evil Empire. He was right in giving the Soviets that title because that's who they were. President Reagan also said, when asked what his strategy was with regards to the Soviets, "Simple. We win. They lose." Peaceful co-existence, in President Reagan's opinion, wasn't possible. In contrast, that's the desired outcome in Trump's opinion.

We're standing on the precipice of an historic moment when we can tame Russia for a generation. Trump's goal is to talk peace.

President Reagan told us what he'd do. Whenever the Soviets tried establishing a new beach head, Reagan would establish connections with a rival group, then supply them with arms. The Ukrainians want to defeat Russia. Ukraine's military has manhandled the Russian military when they've had sufficient weaponry. Why won't we let Ukraine win?

Without firing a shot, President Reagan took down the Soviet Union:

Trump frequently brags that he has great relationships with Putin Xi Jinping and Kim Jung Un. The best relationship the U.S. should have with Putin is the one when he's staring up at his tombstone. He wants to resurrect the Soviet Union. Reagan buried that worthless regime 30+ years ago. Let's keep it there where it belongs.

President Reagan, not Trump, is the gold standard for foreign policy and national security. Trump had some worthwhile accomplishments, most prominently the Abraham Accords. President Reagan, though, got rid of the Soviet Union for a generation. As a result, the entire Eastern Bloc went from totalitarian control to liberty in a matter of months. Ukraine, Poland, Romania and other Eastern Bloc nations still stand as a testimony to President Reagan's wisdom. If Ukraine is willing to defeat the Russians, we should give them the weapons to finish the job. Further, those weapons should get there on an expedited basis.
