Joe Biden's debt ceiling fight: will Biden, Democrats do their jobs?
The administration still thinks that have the upper hand in this fight. They've brushed aside the Limit, Save, Grow Act that House Republicans passed without a single Democrat vote. Hakeem Jeffries brushed the bill aside, saying that "President Biden has produced a budget. House Republicans produced a ransom note. That is what the Default on America Act is, and that is wildly irresponsible."
Biden, House and Senate Democrats think that fiscal responsibility is holding the U.S. economy hostage. Let's remember that Democrats have increased federal spending by 50% in FY2019-2021. Let's remember that this reckless spending produced the highest inflation since the 1980s.
Leader Jeffries is long on hyperbole and rhetoric but short on work effort. This is his speech before the House passed the Limit, Save, Grow Act:
According to Jeffries' speech, the Limit, Save, Grow Act will hurt every demographic group in the United States, from Appalachia to the desert southwest and from border-to-border. Jeffries went so far as to reach back to Bill Clinton to say that Democrats are the party of fiscal responsibility. He left out the part that it was Newt Gingrich's Contract With America that first talked about balancing the U.S. budget. Before that, a balanced budget wasn't on Bill Clinton's priority list. How many people think that able-bodied people that are getting government benefits should be allowed to stay at home and collect benefits is a form of hostage-taking? How many people across the U.S. think that returning the U.S. to energy independence is a form of hostage-taking? How many people across the U.S. think that limiting the federal budget growth to 1% per year for the next 10 years is a form of hostage-taking?
House Republicans did their job. Thus far, Joe Biden and House and Senate Democrats haven't done a thing except flap their gums. Senate Democrats haven't even held a hearing on raising the debt limit.
Kevin McCarthy did his job. House Republicans did their jobs. The question now is whether Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats will do their jobs.
