Why Joe Biden won't debate the GOP nominee
If I'm advising Biden, why would I agree to him debating a young, charismatic and eloquent candidate? The chances of Biden telling one of his stories of things that didn't happen is too great. Think of his story that he was arrested attempting to meet with Nelson Mandela. Worse, what happens if Biden has one of his frequent brain freeze moments? Will battleground state independents give him the benefit of the doubt? That's a risky proposition.
Biden is a well-known loose cannon. He's frighteningly undisciplined. The things that the DC press corps, aka the Media Wing of the DNC, call gaffes are just proof that Biden is a liar and corrupt. Further, debating the GOP nominee is all downside without an upside for the Biden campaign. Additionally, if Biden debates the GOP nominee, it almost forces VP Harris, aka the Cackling Pantsuit, aka the Word Salad Specialist, into debating. That'd be a campaign manager's worst nightmare.
Here's Biden spinning a tall tale about meeting Mandela:
It's a different situation on the GOP side. If Trump doesn't debate, as he's threatened to do, he looks like a man with something to hide or something to be afraid of. For a guy who's always fighting to project an image of a tough guy, that isn't a good image to project. That's why I can't see Trump skipping the GOP debates. Finally, I believe the polls showing Trump with a double-digit lead over Gov. DeSantis are accurate in the sense that they're a snapshot of what's happening right now. This week, Trump suggested that DeSantis shouldn't get into the race because he doesn't have a chance of winning. That's just Trump playing his mind games. Gov. DeSantis understands this and has ignored Trump -- for now. When he finally gets into the race, expect Gov. DeSantis to put forth a positive, pro-growth agenda. Also, expect Gov. DeSantis to hit back hard occasionally. Gov. DeSantis' strategy should be similar to Biden's 2020 strategy. He should let Trump soak up the spotlight. While Trump is still popular within the GOP, he isn't as popular as he was 5 years ago (pre-COVID).
I hope I'm wrong. I hope that Dementia Joe does debate. That way, everyone will see how he isn't mentally alert enough for being Commander-in-Chief or the Leader of the Free World.
