When Donald Trump is indicted

The Conventional Wisdom reports all say that Donald Trump will be indicted today. Apparently, Alvin Bragg, Manhattan's District Attorney, will indict Donald Trump on (pardon the pun) trumped up charges that he violated federal campaign finance regulations when he allegedly had convicted perjurer Michael Cohen pay hush money to alleged mistress Stormy Daniels.

Since Conventional Wisdom always gets it right, this should be accepted as Gospel fact. Conventional Wisdom also informs us that this will cause a stampede of support to Trump as we rally around Trump, our one and only savior.

A recent email update from TrumpStatements.org declares "One path, defined by apathy and fatigue, will be the abandonment of America’s Constitution, the destruction of the rule of law, and result in the beginning of the end for the Great American Experiment. The other path, led by patriots who stand up and get involved right now, is the only hope we have for saving America and the writing of America’s redemption."

The cure? Donald Trump declares:

President Donald J. Trump is America’s redemption, he is the lifeline of freedom and prosperity, and only through him will America truly be made Great again.
Excuse me while I go into the bathroom and throw up. With all due respect to President Trump, he's become yesterday's news. His policies definitely brought about an economic revival before COVID hit. After the economy was re-opened, the economy took off again. That's the upside. It's time to admit the downside of voting Trump.

First and most importantly, Donald Trump's been on a lengthy losing streak. Trump lost the House in the 2018 midterms. Then Trump lost the Senate and his re-election bid in 2020. In 2022, Trump endorsed tons of candidates. The vast majority of them won their primaries. People talked about Trump's amazing comeback. Unfortunately, Trump's statewide candidates lost.J.D. Vance was the only winner of that group. Remember these moments:

I'm not tired of winning. I'm sick of losing. We should've won in Nevada with Adam Laxalt. We should've held Pat Toomey's seat in Pennsylvania. The point is that Republican primary voters, in my estimation, will separate the rally-round-the-flag emotionss of Bragg indicting Trump and the question of who's the candidate best equipped to retake the White House. Trump is doing ok with minority voters but he's tanking with suburban voters. Further, while Trump's policies are still popular, Trump the person isn't. That's especially true now that Indictment Day is here and he still isn't indicted ... yet.

Further, Trump appears to be flailing in his attempt to criticize Ron DeSantis:

President Trump wants you to know that there might be a scandal coming out regarding @GovRonDeSantis and underage girls, or "possibly a man."
Let's cut to the chase with Trump. He's undisciplined and mean-spirited. The Trump magic of 2016 is gone. That doesn't mean he can't win the nomination. It simply means he likely can't defeat Biden.

Frankly, I'm more tired of losing than I'm upset with Alvin Bragg.
