Inside the March 13 Little Falls School Board Meeting

At 5:00 pm Monday afternoon, the School Board for Little Falls Public Schools met. The opening part of the meeting was dedicated to comments from the public. The second person to speak during this part of the meeting was Cassie Fredregill. I first wrote about Cassie Fredregill in this article. Since writing that article, I've learned that Cassie ran for the school board in 2022.

As I wrote in the article, Cassie was startled when her daughter came home from school in November, of 2022. Cassie's daughter told her that the school was planning on teaching 10-year-olds about sexting. Not knowing what the class was about, Cassie emailed the teacher to gather information about the class. After that initial email inquiry from Cassie, the teacher told Cassie that she wouldn't be teaching the class and that she should contact the school's social worker because that's who would be teaching the class.

Since the school social worker hasn't responded, it isn't known with certainty whether the class is about teaching kids how to not be victims of sexting or whether it's about teaching them about sexting. Since the class is being taught by the school social worker, not law enforcement, it's likely it's about sexting technique.

About 5:25 into this video, Cassie delivers her speech, followed by some questions from a school board member:

Here is the text of Cassie's speech before the board:

What's known with certainty is that the school issued what amounts to a cease-and-desist letter. Further, we know that Cassie received a notice for her daughter's parent-teacher conference with a note attached. The note said that Cassie wasn't allowed to attend her daughter's parent-teacher conference. Only Cassie's husband could attend.

Some questions need answering that haven't been answered:

  • Why hasn't the school answered Cassie's well-intentioned questions?
  • Why did Cassie get served with a cease-and-desist letter for inquiring about this class?
  • Why doesn't the school have any curricula for this class?
  • Why didn't the superintendent address why he accused Cassie of questioning the teacher's integrity when he met her? An adult would've sought a reset to the situation, not an escalation to the situation.
Cassie's questions were legitimate. She had a responsibility to ask those questions. The school's answers weren't satisfactory.
