Joe Biden's trip through Wonderland

Yesterday, Joe Biden travelled to northern Virginia to start testing his campaign message. While there, Joe did what Joe does best -- he told some whoppers. He said some misleading things, too. Joe spent some time criticizing Republicans, too. (Actually, that's when the whoppers started flying.) Then he finished by selling his economic policies as the best invention since sliced bread was invented.

Misleading statements

Joe said "Economic growth is up, stronger than experts expected, at 2.9 percent we’re growing." That 2.9% growth is the result of rebuilding companies' inventories. It wasn't the result of a booming economy. Further, that 2.9% growth came after Biden's first half recession. Biden's economy grew by a pathetic 1% in 2022.

And wages are up, and they're growing faster than inflation. Over the past six months, inflation has gone down every month and, God willing, will continue to do that. This is misleading, too. What Joe Biden didn't say is that this is the first month in his administration when wages increased more than inflation increased. During the previous 21 straight months, inflation grew faster than wages. Further, inflation is still above 6%. The Fed target is 2%. Inflation is down from 9.1% but it's still got a long ways to go to return to Trump's levels. When Trump left office, inflation was 1.4%. Today under Biden, it's 6.3%.

The Uniter-in-Chief returns (just kidding)

But, look, we’re moving in the right direction. Now we’ve got to protect those gains. We’ve got to protect those gains that our policies have generated — protect them from the MAGA Republicans in the House of Representatives who are threatening to destroy this progress.
What gains? Inflation is high. Home heating bills are especially high, thanks to Biden's war against fossil fuels. Biden's commitment to destroying our fossil fuel industry includes destroying appliances that use natural gas, one of the cleanest-burning, most reliable fuels available.

Look, here’s the deal: They’re going to cut your Socia- — they want to cut your Social and Medicare. No, this is the God’s truth. It’s almost unbelievable. And beyond that, they’re actually threatening to have us default on the American debt — the debt that’s been accumulated over 230 years. Okay? And the interest on that debt. We’ve never, ever done that.
We aren't going to default. Period. Here's what Sen. John Kennedy said in response to that claim:
Not even George Santos would make up a whopper like that, and the president knows that.
Actually, it's more fun to watch Sen. Kennedy deliver that line. Enjoy:

"I think that President Biden is the only person in the Milky Way who thinks our country is headed in the right direction," Kennedy said. "Look at the facts: Last year, our economy grew at 1%, China's economy was shut down. It grew at 3%. [The U.S. has] 13.5% inflation cumulatively — that's what President Biden has given us in two years."
It's time for Joe to return to realityville. Joe's trip to Wonderland is a little frightening.
