Cancel Culture's corrosive effects

Cancel Culture is one of the most destructive forces in modern society. In the 1980s and 90s, people had passionate debates and discussions on the issues. In Minnesota, "archconservative" Jason Lewis frequently debated "uberprogressive" Paul Wellstone on the issues. In DC, Speaker Tip O'Neill told President Reagan that they often plotted President Reagan's demise in Tip's office. Reagan's reply? "Yes, but not after 7:00 pm."

Today, it's dramatically different, thanks to Cancel Culture with an Honorable Mention to Antifa and to the BLM organization. When Elon Musk bought Twitter, Democrats started convulsing in shock. Now that Elon is issuing policy changes, Democrats are losing their minds. This week, Elon issued a new policy on debating COVID.

Midweek this week, Elon tweeted "New Twitter policy is to follow the science, which necessarily includes reasoned questioning of the science." Predictably, leftists pounced. "New York Times contributor Wajahat Ali, however. Ali called it 'something a really dumb person would tweet.' Journalist Ashton Pittman also likened the new policy to 'batsh** clown car conspiracy.'" How sad that Pittman and Ali won't think for themselves. They won't even accept the things that world-renowned scientists have said.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya's Twitter account was put on a Twitter blacklist for saying "Mass testing is an insidious form of lockdown by stealth."

It's sad that these Democrats won't tolerate original thought. The truth is that Elon Musk is exactly right. Following the science necessarily includes reasoned questioning of the science. I've noticed that science doesn't thrive in authoritarian environments. Authoritarians aren't into letting people think for themselves. Authoritarians definitely don't like people questioning things.

Here's Elon's policy-changing tweet:

Here's Katherine Brodsky's reply to Elon's tweet: I'm not a scientist by any stretch of the imagination. I didn't get good grades in science classes. Still, I know that science is advanced by asking questions at the right time. There's no such thing as settled science. Rather than accept the notion of settled science, I'd argue that the things that are called settled science is proof of a closed mind. What a shame that Cancel Culture thrives on closed minds.

Here's Elon Musk's first instructions for Twitter's employees:
