Martha Raddatz vs. Greg Abbott

Martha Raddatz isn't off to a good start this week. She's getting ridiculed by honest journalists for her interview of Greg Abbott, Texas's Republican governor. In that interview, Raddatz accused Gov. Abbott of causing the border crisis. This is almost as bad as Leslie Stahl telling then-President Trump that there wasn't any evidence that government spied on Trump's campaign.

With the Twitter Files now confirming Trump's suspicions, Stahl should apologize to Trump. That won't happen because 60 Minutes is infamous for doing hit-job interviews on Republicans. That's 60 Minutes' stock-in-trade, their modus operandi. But I digress. Back to Martha Raddatz's idiotic argument.

Apparently, Raddatz thinks that the borders aren't open because Joe Biden and Karinne Jean-Pierre, aka KJP, don't use that term when speaking on that subject. Forget the fact that illegal immigration has spiked from 458,000+ in FY2020 to 2,378,000+ in FY2022. If that isn't the definition of opening the floodgates, I don't know what is.

Prof. Jonathan Turley quoted Raddatz as saying this in her Abbott interview:

You talk about the border wall, you talk about open borders, I don’t think I’ve ever heard President Biden say, ‘We have an open border, come on over.” But people I have heard say it are you, are former President Trump, Ron DeSantis. That message reverberates in Mexico and beyond. So, they do get the message that it is an open border.
These shirts were seen all over the place in northern Mexico prior to Biden's inauguration:
What part of that says 'the border is shut'? A: It doesn't. Jonathan Turley succinctly summarized things this way:
The Raddatz interview raises again the danger of a de facto state media where media echoes the position of the government by choice rather than coercion. Her objection was that Abbott and others keep referring to a crisis when the Administration and mainstream media do not use such terms. As a journalist, she is objecting to a public official in a border state calling out a crisis as thousands pour over his border on a daily basis.
Gov. Abbott is the expert-on-the-ground. Joe Biden has never visited the border in his life. Still, I'm supposed to trust the guy who's never visited the border and who won't let the border patrol agents speak to Bill Melugin, the best border correspondent in the business? I don't think so.

This is the Raddatz-Abbott interview:

Raddatz isn't stupid. She knows that the cartels have known that the Biden administration didn't intend on enforcing immigration laws from before he was inaugurated. That t-shirt started showing up on TV before Inauguration Day.

News reporters are supposed to dig into places and find out what's happening. They're supposed to provide us with information that helps us make informed decisions. Martha Raddatz is a government shill for Democrats. She isn't there to inform us. She's there to persuade and misguide us.
