Cracking Russia's propaganda code

The more outlandish the Russians' demands, the worse shape militarily they appear to be in. According to the Institute for the Study of War, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was interviewed by state-run news agency TASS. During the interview, Lavrov "that Ukraine and the West are 'well aware of Russia’s proposals on the demilitarization and denazification' of Ukrainian-controlled territory and that the Russian military will settle these issues if Ukraine refuses to accept these proposals."

ISW explains that "Russian demands for 'demilitarization' aim to eliminate Ukraine’s ability to resist further Russian attacks, while the demands for 'denazification' are tantamount to calls for regime change in Ukraine." That's a steaming pile of chutzpah from Moscow. The Russian military isn't well-positioned to make such demands. It's most likely that these demands are meant to hide the fact that Ukraine is on the offensive against the Russian military. The Russian military is relying on weaponry from other nations, not on Russian-manufactured weaponry.

Despite these realities, some Republican isolationists want to start cutting off aid to Ukraine. I get it that they don't like spending money on foreign wars rather than securing our southern border. What they're missing, though, is that we should be doing both things.

If we had a real president who wasn't afraid of his own shadow, this war would've been won already. How often in the early days did Biden worry about escalating the war with MiGs from Poland? How often did Biden slow walk lethal military aid that Ukraine was asking for? How often did Congress drag Biden into action?

Militarily speaking, Ukraine's military has outperformed their Russian counterparts. How often did we hear that Kyiv would fall within the first week? That still hasn't happened and we're 10 months into this war. I doubt it will while Zelenskiy is president. The Ukrainian people have been a portrait of patriotism.

Jacqui Heinrich's interview of Gen. Jack Keane speaks volumes:

The use of overwhelming force is the fastest way to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Half-hearted steps don't cut it. Half-hearted steps let Putin regroup. Give Ukraine the tools to exploit the battlefield.

Russia doesn't have the weapons needed to change Ukraine's momentum unless it resorts to nuclear weapons. That, though, is a death sentence to Russia. For all of Russia's tough talk, they're actually in a difficult position.
