Kevin McCarthy to Alejandro Mayorkas: Quit or be impeached

Late this afternoon, GOP Speaker-in-Waiting Kevin McCarthy succinctly stated that DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was derelict in his duties of enforcing this nation's immigration laws. McCarthy is quoted as saying "We will use the power of the purse and the power of subpoena. Let me be clear, those responsible for this disaster will be held accountable. If Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action and every failure to determine whether we can begin impeachment inquiries."

Predictably, Democrats characterized the GOP's visit as a PR stunt. White House Press Secretary Karinne Jean-Pierre said "What is his plan? What is he doing to help the situation that we're seeing? He goes down there and he does a political stunt, like many Republicans do, that we have seen them do, [and] not put forth a plan."

KJP knows the House GOP plan. She just doesn't like it. The House (and Senate GOP) plans are to finish building Trump's wall, end Biden's catch-and-release program, rebuild ICE and CBP and re-implement Trump's Remain in Mexico policies.

KJP is deploying a nifty trick. The Biden administration put out a "comprehensive immigration reform" plan the day they were inaugurated. They did this with the hope that they'd be inoculated from criticism from Republicans. Anyone, whether they're Republicans or Democrats, should be ridiculed mercilessly if they tout comprehensive immigration reform.

The only immigration reform that has a chance of working starts with shutting down the border. That's only possible by building the wall first. That isn't the only thing that's needed but that's what it starts with. The old story about the bathtub that's overflowing is a perfect example. You don't start mopping the floor until you turn the spigot off first. That's how this works.

During his presser, McCarthy also announced that he's giving the committee of jurisdiction permission to hold hearings in border cities so Democrats are forced to make serious visits to the border and to force the media to cover those hearings.

Yesterday, Maria Bartiromo interrogated Gov. Ron DeSantis on Sunday Morning Futures. The first half of the interview, Bartiromo asked policy questions. Gov. DeSantis showed his understanding of the issues and presented his solutions on everything from China, inflation and growing the economy. The first reply he had was to cut spending. His next reply was to open energy production. Third, he talked about the importance of increasing productivity, which he correctly said is the best way to eliminate inflation.
