Andy Biggs, Matt Gaetz & Matt Rosendale vs. sanity, Kevin McCarthy

Andy Biggs, Matt Gaetz and Matt Rosendale have announced that they'll never vote for Kevin McCarthy to be the next Speaker of the House of Representatives. In making that announcement, they've shown themselves to immature, selfish children incapable of governing.

They've also identified themselves as not being team players. While they were busy getting re-elected, Kevin McCarthy reportedly raised $480,000,000 for other candidates, stumped for candidates nationwide, especially down the stretch, and put together a governing agenda know as Our Commitment to America.

These are the actions of people who look for the tiniest imperfections in leaders who don't meet their high standards while they're sitting in their hammocks in the shade. These are grandstanders, not leaders. Biggs, Gaetz and Rosendale lost, then decided that they didn't like the outcome so they started complaining rather than uniting behind the winner.

The Consequences of Immaturity

Potentially, their actions might hand the Speaker's Gavel to Hakeem Jefferies. With that Gavel, Jefferies has the authority to maintain Adam Schiff as a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he'll be free to continue leaking to his heart's content. A Speaker Jefferies wouldn't let Kevin McCarthy kick Eric Swalwell off the HPSCI or Ilhan Omar off the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

I'd expect this type of stunt from Rep. Gaetz, who is well-known for his PR stunts. I didn't expect this type of behavior from Biggs. This type of take-my-ball-and-go-home attitude is the type of selfish stunt that will divide the caucus and prevent them from pushing a pro-growth economic agenda. It'd prevent House Republicans from passing pro-energy legislation and putting pressure on Senate Democrats to enact permitting reform or maintain the Green New Deal status quo. (More on pressuring Senate Democrats on energy in another post.)

It's time for these crybabies to stop their whining. It's time for them to get to work on improving Americans' lives. Biggs, Gaetz and Rosendale lost a fair fight. Now they're asking for a do-over. That isn't how a fair system works. If they can't live with the results of a fair fight, then it's time for them to retire. If they still have disputes with McCarthy, then resolve them like adults behind closed doors.

McCarthy isn't perfect but he's worked hard the past 4 years to put together a new GOP majority. What did Biggs, Gaetz and Rosendale do to make this GOP majority a reality? This interview shows how out-of-touch Rep. Biggs is:

Again, letting McCarthy do the heavy lifting, then telling him that he isn't good enough after the election is a PR stunt. I used to respect Biggs. I don't anymore. I never respected Gaetz. He struck me as an in-it-for-himself type. It isn't a flattering profile.

During the interview, Biggs esssentially said that he wanted the Speaker to be a figurehead character, with the members ruling the House. That's contemptible. A strong Speaker is required to keep the team heading in the right, unified direction.
