Will Republicans sweep the Wild, Wild West?

Let's just be honest about something. This election cycle isn't like any other election cycle I've ever seen. I'm too young to have witnessed LBJ's sweep in 1964. I was 8 at the time. I watched Nixon annihilate Sen. McGovern in 1972 only to see Nixon resign in disgrace in 1974 over Watergate. I loved watching President Reagan win 525 electoral votes in 1984. I loved watching Republicans win the House majority in 1994 with Newt Gingrich's Contract With America.

This year is different because Joe Biden has destroyed so many things. Inflation is sky-high. The Tex-Mex border is wide open. Fentanyl is indiscriminately killing people in every state. Education is a major issue in Virginia, New Jersey and Florida. Gas prices are a major worry in pretty much every state in the union but especially on the Left Coast.

If you're a Republican politician, you've got options galore for what issues you want to highlight. If you're a Republican politician in Arizona, though, educational freedom and Biden's open borders are the things you should highlight. That's what Kari Lake and Blake Masters are focusing on with great effect. This article highlights the AZ Senate debate:

Duane Patterson watched the whole debate as part of his prep for this morning’s Hugh Hewitt show, and he plays a few more clips from the debate on the latest episode of The Ed Morrissey Show podcast. No one will be surprised to learn that Duane scored it a knockout for Masters either, but he certainly provides some evidence for it. In fact, speaking of evidence …

"I’m here to report a murder," Duane tells me. "Mark Kelly got his ass kicked — I mean up, down, and sideways." Masters really scored on Kelly regarding inflation, Duane says, a particular concern for retirees in a state filled with them and hung Chuck Schumer’s radical abortion bill around his neck. And in yet another clip, Kelly tried to duck his vote on a bill by claiming that bill titles have nothing to do with the bill language, which not only made Kelly look evasive but also complicit in a campaign to hoodwink and gaslight voters.

Kari Lake leads in most of the respected Likely Voter screened polls, which isn't all that surprising. She's definitely a rising star in the GOP. Then there's Oregon, where Christine Drazan leads in the last 3 Likely Voter screened polls.

In Nevada, Adam Laxalt leads Democrat incumbent Sen. Catherine Cortez-Masto. Meanwhile, the last 3 Likely Voter screen polls show GOP challenger Joe Lombardo leading Democrat Gov. Steve Sisolak.

At this point, Republicans are in strong shape to turn in an impressive performance in the West, both for the Senate and the governorships.

The new polling will show Masters extending his lead over Kelly. I agree with Duane. This as is particularly devastating: If Joe O'Dea wins in Colorado and Tiffany Smiley defeats Patty Murray in Washington State, that'd be a heckuva sweep for Republicans.
