Kevin McCarthy's Commitment to America
Though ABC is critical of the Commitment document, it should be noted that the Commitment document is just an outline of what a McCarthy House would work on. ABC's report says "While intended to detail what an agenda could look like in a GOP House majority, the plan is light on specifics. Included in the "commitment" are platitudes like "support[ing] our troops," "exercis[ing] peace through strength with our allies to counter increasing global threats," "recover[ing] lost learning from school closures" and "uphold[ing] free speech."
The ABC hit job notwithstanding, let's dig into these commitments. Peace through strength equals rebuilding our military so the Putin-like bad actors don't start invading us or our allies. Upholding free speech equals going after Big Tech and Cancel Culture, which silence speech that doesn't fit their political ideology. Supporting our troops equals not feeding them BS like what the right pronouns are or telling our military to use inclusive language when they speak.
My congressman offered his opinion:"This is a guide a map to what we'll do to a majority and I think the future speaker is handling it exactly the way it should be," said Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer, the chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee. "We've got the best candidates we've ever had, we've got the right message. It's about cost of living, it's about crime. It's about the border.Predictably, the Democrats' state-run Praetorian Guard media and Democrat windbags has already started criticizing the plan: Rep. Mike Doyle, (D-PA), criticized McCarthy for opposing the American Rescue Plan. That bill is highly responsible for creating sky-high inflation. The thing that's foolish is trusting Democrats who gave us this economic mess in the first place. It's foolish to trust Democrats who haven't held hearings on Larry Krasner's high crime policies in Philadelphia, Alvin Bragg's high crime policies in NYC or Kim Foxx's indifference to crime in Chicago.
It's foolish to think that Democrats will lift a finger in closing the Tex-Mex border or fight the fentanyl war that's plaguing our nation. While Democrats have been indifferent to these issues, Republicans won't be indifferent. Republicans will be fully engaged on these issues.
The commitment was notably circumspect on one issue that has roiled the midterms: abortion.Republicans embracing this document will receive a post-announcement bounce. Barring something totally unforseen happening, this represents the start to a GOP surge to victory in November. In 1994, Republicans were well-positioned to retake the House for the first time in 40 years. After unveiling the Contract With America, the GOP took off and never looked back. That year, the GOP didn't lose a single incumbent in the House or Senate while flipping 52 Democrat seats. Included in those 52 seats was George Nethercutt defeating sitting Speaker Tom Foley, and the defeats of House Ways and Means Committee Chair Dan Rostenkowski and the House Judiciary Committee Chair."This election is about kitchen-table issues ... inflation," Emmer maintained. "You've got to have a position [on abortion], but [kitchen-table issues] are going to decide the election," he said.
The media, including Fox, has spoken to the Democrats' newfound Joementum. This morning, that Joementum stops.
