Joe Manchin didn't break Larry Kudlow's heart

For months, Larry Kudlow finished his show's opening riffs by saying "Save America. Kill the Bill." The bill he referred to was BBB. One man stood between Joe Biden and a nuclear explosion of inflation at the time -- Joe Manchin. Finally, after months of negotiations and speculation, Manchin told Bret Baier that he simply couldn't get to yes on BBB.

Larry Kudlow rejoiced on his show, as well he should. Larry was the 'Vote No' campaign against BBB and higher taxes. Joe Manchin, according to some liberal pundits, had saved Democrats from themselves. That's true.

Recently, speculation started that Manchin had been approached by Sen. Majority Leader Schumer about a stripped-down version of BBB. Speculation pegged the price-tag at 'only' $1,000,000,000,000. Re-enter Mr. Kudlow. Several of his opening riffs included pleas to Manchin, saying that Manchin would break his heart if Manchin agreed to this bill.

Today, Larry Kudlow can rejoice. This morning's CPI report caused Manchin to issue this statement:

Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics published their monthly Consumer Price Index Report indicating consumer inflation has risen to 9.1%, the largest 12-month increase since 1981.

"Today’s inflation data illustrates the pain families across the country are feeling as costs continue to rise at a historic rate. 9.1% is cause for serious concern. Items like chicken, eggs and lunchmeat have increased to new highs, while energy costs rose more than 40% in June with those that can least afford it suffering the most. It is past time we put our country first and end this inflation crisis.

"For more than a year, leaders in Washington have ignored the serious concerns raised by myself and others about the rising cost of inflation. While Washington seems to now understand this reality, it is time for us to work together to get unnecessary spending under control, produce more energy at home and take more active and serious steps to address this record inflation that now poses a clear and present danger to our economy. No matter what spending aspirations some in Congress may have, it is clear to anyone who visits a grocery store or a gas station that we cannot add any more fuel to this inflation fire."

According to Mr. Kudlow in this riff, inflation is "broadening, deepening and accelerating:

Mr. Kudlow called yesterday morning's CPI report "a disaster", mostly because inflation is hitting more product and service categories. Let's highlight something that Sen. Manchin said that each Republican should enthusiastically support:
it is time for us to work together to get unnecessary spending under control, produce more energy at home...
It's time to force this administration to support a robust domestic fossil fuel energy policy. If the Biden administration won't support that type of policy, then it's time to pick an administration that will.
