Volodymyr Zelenskiy wows the Grammys

Volodymyr Zelenskiy knows how to capture the moment. Whatever the stage, whoever his audience is, the man simply knows how to get everyone's undivided attention. He's a former comedian, former actor and a former contestant on the Ukrainian version of Dancing With the Stars. These days, though, his days are spent leading a war-torn country that's acting every bit like David in David vs. Goliath.

These days, Goliath has been exposed as overrated and overhyped. These days, David is pleading his case for support in front of the Grammys. A week ago, unserious people were chattering about Will Smith hitting Chris Rock at the Oscars. This week, serious-minded people are talking about President Zelenskiy, aka David, addressing the luminaries in the hall at the Grammys.

While the captive audience sat in the hall, the men dressed in tuxedos and the women dressed in gowns, the Ukrainian president appeared on screen in his trademark olive drab green tee-shirt. President Zelenskiy's garb wasn't dramatic. President Zelenskiy's presentation, though, was a show-stopper. When he finished, the audience gave him a rousing ovation:

"The war. What is more opposite of music? The silence of ruined cities and killed people,” said Zelenskyy. "Our children draw swooping rockets, not shooting stars. Over 400 children have been injured and 153 children died, and we will never see them drawing. Our parents are happy to wake up in the morning in bomb shelters, but alive. Our loved ones don’t know if we will be together again. The war doesn’t let us choose who survives and who stays in eternal silence."

"Our musicians wear body armor instead of tuxedos," he continued. "They sing to the wounded in hospitals. Even to those who can’t hear them. But the music will break through anyway. We defend our freedom. To live. To love. To sound. On our land, we are fighting Russia which brings horrible silence with its bombs. Fill the silence with your music. Fill it today. Tell our story. Tell the truth about the war on your social networks and TV. But not silence."

President Zelenskiy knows how to capture the moment and fill it. I've heard it say that this is spin. I'm not buying it. I'm convinced that this isn't an act; this isn't spin. Why would Zelenskiy stay in that hell-hole if his heart wasn't in it? Why would he keep his family in Ukraine, too? This is another view of Zelenskiy's speech at the Grammys:
