Boris Johnson visits Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv

While Joe Biden spent the day in Delaware, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv. They even went for a walk in Kyiv. While visiting Kyiv, PM Johnson promised an impressive amount of lethal military support.

According to the BBC's report, "Following the meeting, Downing Street said the UK would send 120 armoured vehicles and anti-ship missile systems to support Ukraine. Senior officials in Mr Zelensky's team praised the UK for support during its conflict with Russia." By comparison, when Biden's Pentagon sends a meager amount of lethal military aid a month late, Ukraine diplomatically says that they are grateful for any military hardware they get.

Boris Johnson provided a morale boost to the Ukrainian people:

In a statement after the meeting, Mr Johnson paid tribute to "President Zelensky's resolute leadership and the invincible heroism and courage of the Ukrainian people", saying: "Ukraine has defied the odds and pushed back Russian forces from the gates of Kyiv". He said: "I made clear today that the United Kingdom stands unwaveringly with them in this ongoing fight, and we are in it for the long run. "We are stepping up our own military and economic support and convening a global alliance to bring this tragedy to an end, and ensure Ukraine survives and thrives as a free and sovereign nation."

Mr Johnson also confirmed further economic support, taking total UK loan guarantees to £770m.

Speaking in a video address alongside President Zelensky a short while later, Mr Johnson said Ukrainians "have shown the courage of a lion but you, Volodymyr, have given the roar of that lion".

This is a portion of the press conference where PM Johnson made those remarks:

About 7 minutes into the video, Johnson said that the UK should liberalize trade with Ukraine. Johnson spoke specifically about barley "and other commodities." That's a signal that the UK sees Ukraine defeating Russia. Later in his remarks, Johnson said "we are now evolving a central vision now for the future." Then Johnson said "what this war is certainly producing is a clarity of a vision of a future for Ukraine where, together with friends and partners, we, the UK and others, supply the technology and equipment, the know how, the intelligence so that Ukraine will never be invaded again, so that Ukraine is so fortified and so protected so that Ukraine can never be bullied again..."

That isn't something Americans can picture Biden saying. Boris Johnson is willing to confidently state what Biden hesitates to say. Johnson and Zelenskyy are leading their nations in wartime. Biden isn't leading. He's never been a leader.
