Joe Biden isn't getting enough credit for being a great president

According to CNN, MSNBC, the NYTimes and the Washington Post, Joe Biden isn't getting enough credit for the rip-roaring economy we have. MSNBC's Chuck Todd, for instance, highlighted the fact that 2 polls showed that a) a majority of people think we're already in a recession and b) a supermajority (75%) of people view the economy as "not so good" or "poor."

This isn't that difficult to figure out. The monthly jobs report, which is due out tomorrow BTW, doesn't factor in inflation or high gas prices. It doesn't set aside the anxiety of which bills to pay and which bills to pay late. In such an environment, what's to feel good about?

Where's our cheerleader?

Despite his faults, we could always count on President Trump to highlight things like the lowest unemployment rate for minorities, the lowest poverty rate since that statistic has been kept or how much money the Trump tax cuts were putting into families' pockets. Then again, with inflation being below 2% per year and middle class and working-class wages going up, people noticed that their lives were better. Mix in buying gas at $1.87/gallon and people could see how good their lives were.

Each paycheck proved Trump right. It reminded people that things were heading in the right direction. With Bidenflation, each tank of gas or trip to the grocery store reminds them that inflation isn't transitory. The visuals worked in opposite directions.

Steve Kornacki lays things out perfectly in this segment:

In terms of what's most important to voters in the NBC poll, 21% of voters said "cost of living" while 16% said "jobs & economy." Biden's approval/disapproval rating was 38% approval, 60% disapproval. It's now 33% approval, 63% disapproval. Those numbers will get worse until there's a change in energy policies and the government's spending habits. Considering the fact that Biden is more stubborn than a mule, don't expect this to improve anytime soon. Expect this to get worse.

On March 15, MSNBC guest host Garrett Haake also wondered why Biden had not seen improvement in his poll numbers despite his "popular" stance on Russia's invasion into Ukraine.
This is quite understandable. Americans want Ukraine to win. They don't want U.S. soldiers fighting in Ukraine but they definitely want Ukraine to beat the living daylights out of Putin. Thus far, Biden has touted NATO unity as the biggest accomplishment. HINT TO WHITE HOUSE: People care more about defeating Putin than NATO unity. They'd also prefer getting as many lethal weapons into the hands of Ukrainians as quickly as possible. They don't want to hear about this or that weapon delayed by bureaucratic red tape. They want things done in Trump Time.

It's time for Biden to start listening to Zelenskiy more and his generals less. It's time for him to listen to the people more about the economy than his oft-cited "14 Nobel Laureates." People don't need a Nobel Laureate to know that their paycheck isn't stretching as far as it did 18 months ago.
