The Democrats, a house divided edition
According to The Hill, "Schumer surprised some colleagues last week when he declined to say whether he would support Sinema or Manchin in a future primary and instead sidestepped the question.
'I am focused on 2022, getting things done, and winning the election on 2022,' Schumer told CNN. 'I'm not at all focused on 2024 right now, and neither should anyone else be. That's just how you lose in 2022.'"
The Democrats' divide isn't just happening at the federal level. It's happening in Minneapolis, too, especially when the issue is law enforcement. The dismantle the police/activist wing of the DFL is prepared to relitigate the dismantle the police department fight right now. The Don Samuels/law-and-order wing of the DFL understands the importance of maintaining a well-trained police force.
Javier Morillo is part of the activist wing of the DFL. During Almanac's weekly political roundtable, Morillo fought for dismantling the Minneapolis Police Department, aka the MPD:
The other noteworthy thing that Morillo said is that "our base isn't terribly excited." That's definitely true. The Minneapolis DFL definitely has an explosive situation on their hands. They aren't "terribly excited" but they're definitely terribly divided on the crime issue. This article wouldn't be complete without AOC. AOC is planning on campaigning against Democrat incumbent Henry Cuellar:
The rally will also support Jessica Cisneros, who is looking to unseat incumbent Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, in Texas' 28th Congressional District. Cuellar previously bested Cisneros by four points in the 2020 primary, but now faces controversy after his home was raided by FBI agents last month.I've thought for a time that Cuellar is vulnerable, though I'm still thinking that a leftist won't take his district. It's still a law-and-order district when it comes to the border. Cisneros isn't a law-and-order Democrat. She's an open borders Democrat.
