Kyle Rittenhouse vs. Ahmaud Arbery
After Mr. Rittenhouse was acquitted on all charges, Joy Reid said "We've talked about this. I mean, this is what we expected to happen because I think we have to keep in mind when we`re watching the criminal justice system at work that it was designed to do exactly what it did today. Gun laws helped to enhance the design to allow this verdict to happen today. This country was built on the idea of white men had a particular kind of freedom and a particular kind of citizenship that only they have that gives, you know, from the slave catchers on the right to inflict violence in the name of protecting property."
Reid wasn't finished saying foolish things. After that, she said this:
I'm glad you mentioned the Derek Chauvin verdict. That was a surprising verdict. This should have been unsurprising. But what I do think we have to think about is not only the families of the two men who died and the family of Mr. Grosskreutz, they should be in our minds right now because they suffered. And there have been a lot of white people who have defended black lives and paid for it with their lives.Last Friday, Jason Johnson sat in for Joy Reid. Reid then joined the panel after her flight. Johnson then questioned Paul Butler, a Georgetown law professor, who said this:
It's not a formal legal precedent, Jason, but make no mistake, Rittenhouse will be the poster child for reactionary white men who want to take the law in their own hands, who want to bring assault weapons to Black Lives Matter protests and who think that violence is a legitimate form of political discourse.Except on MSNBC and CNN, Kyle Rittenhouse is a victim. He's also a teenager who acted in self-defense. That isn't speculation. That's what a jury of his peers determined after hearing all of the testimony and viewing all of the evidence. In the eyes of the law, Rittenhouse is now actually the victim of the three men who he shot, even though the evidence suggest that Rittenhouse went to Kenosha spoiling for a fight, that`s why he brought that semi-assault gun, a bulletproof vest and full metal bullets.
Reid talked about Rittenhouse "feeling threatened during a Black Lives Matter protest." That isn't the situation that presented itself to Mr. Rittenhouse. Rittenhouse found himself in a full-blown riot.
For all their bloviating, the Reid panel wasn't close to right. In Georgia on Tuesday, a jury of 11 white people and a single person of color took less than 12 hours to convict 3 white men for shooting a black man. Fifty years ago, Georgia was one of the most racist states in the union. How could a state that was that racist 50 years ago return a verdict that delivers justice to a black man? According to Joy Reid's panel, that isn't possible. The only explanation that makes sense is that juries are made up of individuals expressing their individuality while applying the law according to the oath they swore at the start of the trial. It's time to sweep aside the BS getting spewed by Joy Reid and others at MSNBC and CNN.
