Joe Manchin vs. Joe Biden, child tax credit edition

It's pretty obvious that there's still quite a bit to iron out the Democrats' Eternal Entitlements Bill. This article highlights the principal difference between Joe Biden and Joe Manchin. During CNN townhall Thursday night, Biden's "first question came from a Morgan State University employee with two young children who asked about Biden's child tax credit plan."

Biden quickly replied "No. Here's the deal: All these people are working anyway. And, by the way, why should somebody who is not working, and who has a million-dollar trust fund, why should they get the benefit when someone who is making $60,000 and not working, staying home, why should they not get anything? I don't get that."

Biden never had much of a fastball when it came to policy. His fastball has less on it now than it did 15-20 years ago. The whole idea behind imposing a workfare requirement on the child tax credit is to make certain that people gain the skills to re-enter the workforce. This is the cornerstone principle behind the Clinton-Gingrich Welfare Reform bill that turned out to be wildly successful.

If Biden doesn't side with Sen. Manchin on this provision, he won't get Sen. Manchin's vote on final passage. That means the entire bill fails. For months, Larry Kudlow has been saying "Save America. Kill the Bill." He repeated that again in this interview:

I've given the Biden administration the nickname "the Never Will Be Ready for Primetime Players." When I think Pete Buttigieg, I think airhead. When I think Antony Blinken, I think incompetence and weakness. When I think Alejandro Mayorkas, I think incompetent and corrupt. This cabinet simply isn't prepared to run things, except into the ground. The border should be shut. The ports should be pumping out inventory for stores. The economy should be humming along. Instead, the Atlanta Fed has revised their third quarter GDP prediction down from 6% to 0.5%. In other words, we're just a tick away from recession.

The best thing for the economy is for the bill to fail. The best thing that could happen for the United States is to reject en masse Democrats. Today's Democrats have nothing in common with Bill Clinton's Democrats.
