The Democrats' inevitable civil war

Based on this article, the Democrats' civil war is a matter of when, not if. The reconcilliation bill that's secretly being put together by Bernie Sanders and other Democrat socialists isn't playing well with Joe Manchin, aka the King of the Senate. Last week, King Joe told Chuck Schumer that he wouldn't vote for Bernie's $3.5 trillion reconcilliation bill.

That's thrown the Democrats' orbits into a tailspin. Nancy Pelosi doesn't have much in the way of leverage on this bill because a handful of House 'moderates' refuse to terminate their political careers for Pelosi. In the Senate, Chuck Schumer has less maneuverability than Pelosi because he needs every Democrat to vote yes to pass the reconcilliation bill.

Manchin instead called on Democrats to whittle down the amount, perhaps by more than half, while reeling in broad swaths of their still-forming proposal — including some of its programs to address child poverty and combat climate change. The potential for spending cuts later troubled Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who described a smaller economic package as "unacceptable."
After Joe Biden's disastrous mishandling of Afghanistan, he doesn't have much political clout to intimidate people like Manchin. Further, Democrats are staring at another historic shellacking in next year's midterms:
The marked decline in support for President Biden and his administration nationally and in key swing states indicates that the Democratic Party could endure a blowout defeat in the 2022 midterm elections. Moreover, Biden is in a significantly weaker position now than both of his most recent Democratic predecessors, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, at this point in their presidencies, which suggests that Democrats could suffer even more substantial losses in 2022 than the party did in 1994 and 2010.
Bernie and AOC know that they won't get another shot at enacting their agenda anytime soon. Think another decade minimum. That will put these Democrat Socialists in a foul mood. To these Democrat Socialists, their agenda is everything. In the past, Ms. Pelosi had a way of getting Democrats to listen because of her prolific fundraising abilities. Those days are history.

First Joe:

Then Bernie:

Key line from the Manchin interview:
"We can debate it. We can discuss it. We can have hearings on it, make sure whatever we do, we do it and do it right. Make sure we don't put stuff out there that isn't needed."
The last thing Ms. Pelosi wants is sunshine shining into this bill. She wants this bill to be filled with slush funds for the Democrats' special interest organizations without attention getting paid to those slush funds.

Money line from Bernie's interview:
Everyone in America, whether you're Democrat, Republican or independent, understands that - for last many years, the very richest people and the largest corporations have done phenomenally well while the middle class and the working class of this country struggle."
Sorry Bernie. I don't know that. Because of the Trump tax cuts, wages for the middle class and the working class have gone up at twice the rate as white collar wages have increased. That isn't opinion. That's what the BLS reports said.

Bernie's schtick is wearing thin. It used to play well but those days are coming to a close. That's why Democrats are facing a shellacking in next year's midterms.
