The rise of education TEA Parties?

When Brandon Michon took to the microphone to tell the Loudoun County School Board that they'd better reopen schools or else (the or else is implied), he restarted a dormant revolution that was once known as the TEA Party. (It's TEA Party because TEA is the acronym for Taxed Enough Already.)

Back in 2009, people rallied against the Obama administration. Specifically, people protested against the Affordable Care Act, aka the ACA, aka Obamacare, and Obama's tax hikes. The protesters' frustration with the Obama administration was palpable. But I digress.

Back to Mr. Michon. At the Feb. 2, 2021 meeting, Michon said "Like so many other families, we're just pivoting and adjusting and the desire to send children back to school is because we really believe the education there is integral for both their mental side and their development."

At this week's Loudoun County School Board meeting, the superintendent shut down public comment. Just 51 of the 259 parents who signed up to speak got to speak. 2 people were arrested.

It isn't just Loudoun County that's uprising. It's happening in Fairfax County, VA, too. It's happened in Southlake, TX, Granite, UT, New Jersey, Oregon and NY State. The 'silver lining' to the pandemic was that parents got exposed to the things that their kids were getting taught. Whether we're talking about in-person learning, Critical Race Theory or transgender issues, people are figuring out that the 'Education Community' (the school boards + the teachers unions) are authoritarians.

The people banding against the Education Community's agenda aren't strictly conservative. These protesting parents were all political stripes going in. At this point, though, they aren't progressive. They won't all vote for Republicans but they're embittered against Democrats.

This is the the parent who got arrested getting interviewed by Tucker Carlson:

What happened to Jon Tigge shouldn't have happened. Whether you like or dislike what he had to say, what he did was protected by the First Amendment. Further, the school board doesn't have the right to declare people gathered in a public building for a meeting open to the public to be tresspassers. What part of public building for a public meaning don't these authoritarians understand?

Predictably, Democrats on the Loudoun County School Board overplayed their hand. They breathed life into a dormant movement. Now, that fever is spreading nationwide. Democrats only have themselves to blame. The Democrats' arrogance was stifling and off-putting.
