Kamala Harris's terrible adventure
A Visit—but NOT to the Southern Border
By Ramblin’ Rose
“Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.” (George Santayana)
Apparently, Biden and Harris march to a different drummer. Consequently, their record is not a litany of successes, unless the criteria are the sheer number of executive orders to mandate control. They prefer to repeat previous mistakes. Obama has said that Biden is completing his third term…more truth than fiction.
Last weekend, nearly three months after being appointed by Biden to resolve the issues at the southern border, Harris did not visit the border, but rather charted a path to Guatemala and Mexico to discover the reason for the exodus from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico. Data from April reported that 30% of the persons entering illegally came from other countries—from nearly every continent, though not Antarctica.
As a presidential candidate, Harris declared that she would not deport illegal aliens. So did Biden. That reveals their ignorance of U.S. law. Asylum is granted to people who are unable or unwilling to return to their native land because of persecution or fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, etc. The law does not provide an “open-door” policy as is the practice of this administration. Nor does it match Harris’ claims of economy and climate change as the driving factors for persons “escaping” to the USA.
In spite of her claims to be determining the root causes of migration and offering solutions, she had her answers to both before departing. Having pre-determined that more money to the countries would resolve the desire to leave for the southern border, Harris promised monetary aid. But that was a program that had already been tried and failed. Obama’s administration provided $3.7 billion in aid between FY2013 and FY2018. It did not solve the problem.
The wall and the “Stay in Mexico” policies of President Trump did stem the flood of illegal aliens. Tragically, Biden/Harris reversed those policies via executive orders.
After experiencing “technical issues” with the first aircraft from Washington, D.C., Harris switched planes. Maybe that was symbolic…maybe she should switch her approach to solving the problem.
Upon arriving in Guatemala, Harris was surprised by the messages shared by some Guatemalans outside the airport fences. In clear English, she had no problem understanding the messages. “Kamala Mind Your Own Business," “Kamala Go Home” and “Kamala, Trump Won." The basis for their protest was against the anti-Biblical stands of the current administration, in particular, gay (LGBTQIA+) and abortion rights. The U.S. State Department reported in 2016 that 87% of the Guatemalans were Christian.
In a joint press conference with Guatemala President Alejandro Giammattei, Harris stated again her solution of financial aid to solve the problem at our southern border. In her naivety, she said: “The goal of our work is to help Guatemalans find hope at home.” She continued: “Most people don’t want to leave home; they don’t want to leave the place where they grew up, where the language they know is spoken, where the culture they know is present and has been for centuries. If they do, [it’s] usually for one of two reasons: fleeing some type of harm, or to stay means they cannot provide for their essential needs or the needs of their family.”
How many people crossing the border have stated that Biden had asked them to come and promised them many benefits? Is that the real motivation? Are they leaving an annual income of a few thousand dollars for the abundance in a land where the average income is now more than $60,000? But they will have free housing, free medical care, free … (finish the list) from the taxes imposed on the hard-working American citizens to provide for them.
Has Harris had an epiphany? Did she contradict her boss? Did she tell the people NOT to come to the border? In her words, “I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the U.S.-Mexico border: Do not come. Do not come. Let’s discourage our friends, our neighbors, our family members from embarking on an extremely dangerous journey where, in large part, the only people who benefit are coyotes.”
Her words raised the ire of AOC (and probably the rest of the Squad). Again, AOC repeated the right of the asylum seekers to enter our country (another who is not cognizant of the reality of US laws).
- Will the promise of $310 million in humanitarian aid to the region stem the tide of illegal entrants to the USA?
- Will Harris or Biden ever visit the border?
- How did Harris do on the international stage? As faceless as her cookies?
