Kamala Harris's invitation

Henry Cuellar, the Democrat representing Texas's 28th District in Congress, sent an invitation to Kamala Harris to join him on a visit to the US-Mexico border. That's the last thing she wants. Her problem is that this invitation won't disappear anytime soon. Cuellar is a targeted House member. The last thing he wants is to be seen as unresponsive to local sheriffs, mayors, towns people and law enforcement.

In the invitation, Cuellar writes "I encourage you to join me and other Members of Congress, while we visit with the people on the ground who deal with these issues every day. I believe it is critical that you meet with local stakeholders and residents, consider their concerns, and use their lived experiences to implement more effective policies." He continues, writing "The rapid rise in the number of migrants arriving at our Southern Border has placed severe burdens on our communities. As the U.S. emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, South Texans continue to struggle economically, due to outdated commercial travel restriction. The situation on the border will only worsen, as more migrants are expected to arrive." Here's the full letter:

Since I started this post, I watched an interview by Harris Faulkner that's thrown cold water on my opinion of Rep. Cuellar. During the interview, he said that President Trump's wall was "a 14th Century solution to a 21st Century problem." Does this look like a 14th Century structure?
Cuellar likes talking about Harris talking with local sheriffs, mayors, towns people and law enforcement. If he spoke with border patrol, which is what Trump did, he'd know that the Border Patrol loves Trump's wall. Support from the people who patrol our borders is virtually unanimous. It's time Cuellar practiced what he's preaching.

Finally, it's time for Biden and Harris to spend an entire day on the US-Mexico border, talking with law enforcement, mayors, sheriffs and towns people. I don't expect Biden and Harris to suddenly develop a case of empathy. What I expect is that they'll notice that doing nothing to fix this border crisis is hurting Democrats and Biden-Harris politically.

By the time 2024 hits, the border crisis will have destroyed the Democratic Party. It's that toxic.
