Donald Trump is heading to the US-Mexico border
On June 30, Donald Trump will do what Joe Biden and Kamala Harris haven't done. Donald Trump has accepted Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's invitation and visit the US-Mexico border. The contrast couldn't be clearer.
Biden and Harris haven't visited the US-Mexico border since their policy reversal of President Trump's Remain in Mexico policy triggered a surge of illegal immigration. The US just experienced the third straight month of 170,000 illegal immigrants at the border.
That represents the highest illegal crossings in 20 years. The last year of the Trump administration saw illegal crossings hit the lowest point in 45 years. This is a big deal in the southwest:
President Trump issued a statement after the announcement. He didn't pull punches or mince words:
The president said in a press release that he had accepted Abbott's invitation to visit the "decimated" border, a deteriorating situation that he attributed to the Biden administration’s decisions to reverse many of his immigration policies.
"Biden and Harris have handed control of our border over to cartels, criminals, and coyotes. Drug dealers, MS-13 gang members, human smugglers, sex traffickers, and the criminal elements of the world now have free reign," Trump said in a statement. "What Biden and Harris have done, and are continuing to do on our border, is a grave and willful dereliction of duty."
Trump continued trolling Biden and Harris:
"If this weren’t bad enough, Biden and Harris won’t even tour the scenes of the wreckage they created, or come down and visit with the Border Patrol and ICE heroes risking their lives to defend our Nation at a time when the White House is doing everything it can to make their job totally impossible."
This will upset the Biden administration. Wherever Trump goes, camera and coverage follow. Even if CNN and MSDNC don't cover the trip, there's no doubt that local stations will. That's especially true considering the fact that TV news rating dropped like a lead balloon post-Trump. This is like manna from Heaven.
The Biden administration isn't taking the situation seriously:
During an interview Tuesday's episode of the Ruthless podcast, Abbott was asked by co-host Josh Holmes if Harris has "even so much has placed a phone call" to him regarding the surge of illegal immigrants that the Lone Star State has faced this year.
"No. So I haven't," Abbott responded. "The president hasn't called. The vice president hasn't called. The only person I've talked to are some folks in the Department of Homeland Security. And that was a long time ago.
Democrats can write off Texas in 2024. Even Democrat mayors in Texas are upset with Biden-Harris. That's the political equivalent of DFL Iron Range mayors endorsing Trump in 2020.
