The X For Men miracle

The X For Boys was started by a young black man named King Randall in Albany, GA. According to this article, the X For Boys "is a 'Man-Making Machine.' Each troubled child is the result of various factors, including an unconducive home environment, poverty, and lack of direction. Despite their misgivings, even troublemakers are not exempt from the human need to find purpose and better themselves, and the organization ensures that they will be given the opportunity."

What Randall is doing is nothing short of amazing. First, he started this project when he was 19. He's just 21 now. Next, the things he's teaching these young men are practical and helpful for everyday life. Third, the accomplishments are stunning:
King Randall is a 21-year-old young man who founded The X for Boys, a youth organization in Albany, Georgia, when he was 19. In the first year, he hosted a summer camp in his home where he taught 20 young men essential life skills, including cooking, repairing and maintaining cars and things at home. In addition, the boys learn to respect weapons by undergoing firearms training as well.
Reading and comprehension is another essential life skill as well, and the founder worked to improve the boys' reading and writing by starting a book club. With weekly book club meetings, The X for Boys has an 86% reading comprehension rate.

Further, no students who've come from the juvenile justice system has re-offended, putting the recidivism rate at 0%.

Check out each of the videos on the X For Men website. They're nothing short of inspirational. What King Randall said in this interview isn't inspirational. It's infuriating:
The X For Boys raised money to buy a school building that's been designated for demolition. When it came time to close the deal, the school district attached poison pill conditions to the purchase agreement. The school district insisted that the school not be used as a school unless the district got to pick the instruction and the curriculum! Oh and if the district got the money that went with it.

The teachers union didn't want the competition so the school district ran interference for them. The fight is still ongoing but I'm betting that Mr. Randall wins this fight.
