Stacey Abrams' suppression crusade
Stacey Abrams' obsession with photo ID election laws isn't just about "restricting voters' access to the polls, but empowering GOP-controlled legislatures 'to rig the outcome that they want.'" That's the myth that Abrams is peddling. History shows us that Democrats have peddled that myth for almost 15 years.
When John Paul Stevens, then still an associate justice on the Supreme Court, wrote the majority opinion in Crawford v. Marion County Board of Elections, Justice Stevens cited the ruling by Judge Barker from the "Federal District Court for the Southern District of Indiana against the state officials responsible for its enforcement, seeking a judgment declaring the Voter ID Law invalid and enjoining its enforcement."
Specifically, Justice Stevens wrote:
"After discovery, District Judge Barker prepared a comprehensive 70-page opinion explaining her decision to grant defendants’ motion for summary judgment. 458 F. Supp. 2d 775 (SD Ind. 2006). She found that petitioners had 'not introduced evidence of a single, individual Indiana resident who will be unable to vote as a result of SEA 483 or who will have his or her right to vote unduly burdened by its requirements.' Id., at 783.She rejected 'as utterly incredible and unreliable' an expert’s report that up to 989,000 registered voters in Indiana did not possess either a driver’s license or other acceptable photo identification. Id., at 803. She estimated that as of 2005, when the statute was enacted, around 43,000 Indiana residents lacked a state-issued driver’s license or identification card. Id."
In other words, Judge Barker ruled that the Democrats' 'expert witness' wasn't just off but was an estimate. Estimates aren't proof and therefore inadmissible. This article highlights the Democrats' dishonesty:
Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams on Tuesday tweeted a nearly six-minute video that continued her list of objections to Georgia’s new controversial voting law after she was cut off by a Republican senator during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week. Here's the questioning from Sen. Kennedy:
The Hill's reporter is clearly attempting to make it sound like Sen. Kennedy wanted to stifle Ms. Abrams' reply. After watching the video of Sen. Kennedy questioning Ms. Abrams, I see Sen. Kennedy attempting to keep Ms. Abrams on point.
Apparently, Ms. Abrams comes complete with a team of propagandists, aka the MSM. What's important to remember is that voter suppression is a myth extended by Ms. Abrams. In his opinion, Justice Stevens said that societies have 2 responsibilities with regards to elections.
One responsibility is to enfranchise as many legal voters as possible. The other responsibility is to protect election integrity. Justice Stevens emphasized the necessity of fulfilling both responsibilities.
